Shochu is Japanese spirit brewed on either rice, wheat or sweet potatoes. It is typically enjoyed rokku, i.e. in a glass with a large amount of ice cubes, often adding a little water. The taste of the different types varies a lot, with shochu brewed on rice having a very mild taste, while Imo shochu, brewed on sweet potatoes, has a very aromatic taste.
Kuro Kirishima is one of the best selling types of shochu on the southern island of Kyushu, where Imo shochu is more popular. It has a pleasant aromatic flavour, which suits most fish and meat dishes.
