Cream Stew is a really popular dish in Japan, and that's easy to understand - it's simple and easy to cook, it tastes wonderful, and you don't need to make a lot of side dishes. What you need is:
1 box of House Cream Stew
1 pack of chicken thigh filet without skin (400 gr, we usually buy it in Rema 1000)
400 grams of onion
300 grams of potatoes
200 grams of carrots
1 head of broccoli (can be left out)
800 ml of water
300 ml of full milk
1-2 tablespoons of oil for frying
Side dish suggestion:
Iceberg lettuce, diced
Mini tomatoes, halved
Cucumber, halved and sliced
Kenko Triple Balance Onion Dressing
Now we're all set. Start by cutting the onions in half and slice them across, peel potatoes and carrots and cut them in smaller bits, and cut the broccoli in smaller parts as well. Remove the chicken from the pack and dice it, not too small. Prepare 300 ml of milk. Then your table should look something like this:
Prepare a large pot and fry the onions in the oil at medium heat until the are soft and clear - make sure they don't turn brown:
When the onions are clear, add the chicken and fry until it has changed colour:
Then add carrots and pototates, and fry a few minutes more:
Add 800 ml of water, and let it stew for 15 minutes with no lid on, until the vegetables are cooked:
After 15 minutes, remove the meat foam from the surface of the broth. Remove as much as possible without removing liquid:
Turn off the heat, break the Cream Stew blocks inside the packet, open the foil, and place the pieces carefully in the pot:
At the same time fill another pot with water and bring it to a boil. Stir the cream stew blocks around carefully until it's completely dissolved, and turn on the heat at medium level again while stirring constantly. Let it simmer for 5 minutes, and boil the broccoli in the other pot at the same time. They only need to boil for 1-2 minutes in lightly salted water, if they're not too big:
Drain the broccoli and let it dry. Hopefully by now the stew has simmered for 5 minutes, and now you add the milk:
Let the stew simmer for another 5 minutes at medium heat, and it's ready to serve. You can serve it on freshly cooked rice or with wholegrain bread on the side - in the picture we have shown it just by itself, but we usually eat it on rice.
As side dish prepare the iceberg lettuce, mini tomatoes, and cucumber, and add your desired amount of Kenko Triple Balance Onion Dressing. Enjoy!
